Dolia

IMG_1070With dinner – a quick carbonara recipe, maybe I’ll share later – Kim and I had a lovely wine that I thought I’d share about. I picked it up at Total Wine & More in Greenville, which I highly recommend if you want to be dumbstruck when looking for a wine (or beer, or cider, or gin, vodka, rum, etc.). They were having some free samplings, and that day it was Italian wines. I first tried Prosecco (good, and I’m not a big fan of the highly carbonated wine), then a wine whose name I can’t remember (a rather dry wine, and I was searching for something for Kim, who likes the sweeter side), and the Dolia. All were rather inexpensive, and came with decent coupons.

IMG_1071In any case, it was the Dolia which we tried tonight. It is semi-sweet. Not so sweet that it didn’t work with a nice quasi-Italian meal, and not so dry that Kim didn’t appreciate it. I’m afraid I just don’t yet have the vocabulary to describe it well, though. It was very smooth, texturally. It wasn’t harsh on the tongue or anything like that. And even with the sweetness and smoothness there was a bite, a tartness, that I can’t quite verbalize; neither bite nor tart really do it justice. Not bad, just quite noticeable, maybe even something to be appreciated in combination with the smoothness. In any case, I’d definitely consider getting it again if I saw it.
